Ash Hansen
On Saturday I celebrated my 33rd birthday, went with Rowan and the kids to a WAFL reserves game, the sun shone all day and the Eagles did me proud. Stu and I really enjoyed the win with 34 000 other loyal supporters but what blew me away was what happened at the end of the game.
For the last 7 years I have been a member of West Coast. I have seen many wins at Subi and not once did the boys go anywhere near the crowd. One of the boys would give away the footy and the rest of them would go to the 4 corners of the centre square and clap the crowd. Now don’t get me wrong at least they acknowledged us!
However during the last 7 years I have felt that the boys should’ve gone a bit further. Then I started noticing other AFL clubs especially the Melb based teams get right up to the fence and really celebrate their win with their supporters. Over time I have become more and more envious.
Well on Saturday my birthday, the boys encouraged by Woosha embraced their fans. Ash Hansen and Priddis came to our end of the ground and high fived everyone along the fence it was a beautiful thing. The elderly ladies in front of us who by the way make wonderful cookies and cupcakes (thanks Bert!) said to us that it was the first time in 20 years. WOW!
Well i think we may have begun to shake that awful untouchable tag! We have certainly been humbled this season but I was stoked by their performance on the weekend. Lots to look forward too and makes for a very interesting derby this weekend.
