Well footy this year for me has been pretty uneventful thing because we are still recovering from the impact of Judd-ass Iscariot (unfortunately he is still my favourite player!) as well as all of the off field issues. Unfortunately this has affected the on field. Or it could just mean that we are not good enough. I can’t remember a longer season and there is still 2 games to go. There is also a lot of speculation re Kerr. I wish someone would come out and put it to bed.
As for the Googs saga. I guess i have tried to avoid saying to much because i really feel for him and his family. The depth in which he has decieved us is mind blowing and i feel that this will have massive ramifications upon the Australian church and again Christian Leadership. The other side of it is that something like this really forces me to think about my journey and faults. It’s so easy to pick up the stone but i find myself standing with the crowd, dumb founded after having just heard Jesus say “if you are without sin, have a go!”
I also think that we need to have a real good look at the ‘hero worship’/cultural thing in our churches and have a converstaion about a way forward. Mark and Scott make some great comments on these issues.
In fact there has been a lot of really good comments posted and i have tried to bring some of the good ones together for you as you seek to gain some understanding in it all.
- Scott Vawser Youth Vision Coach makes some really good comments here
- Mark Conner Senior Pastor at City Life in Melbourne here
- Mark Sayers Culture and Faith Commentator here
The great thing in it all is that we serve a redemptive God who is and has been since the begining time in the business of redeeming our bad decisions.
God Bless you! Pray for each other and your leaders.
